Why Kimi Räikkönen is Pete Bristow’s Favorite FI Driver

Taken from https://www.kimiraikkonen.com/

Happy October, Bristow's Auto Repair family! For our October blog, we have decided to highlight our owner - Pete Bristows favorite F1 Driver. A driver that many professionals have called "A bit of a legend," "very unique," and "an incredible talent." A driver whose nickname is "The Iceman," as he is world-renowned- for his emotionless interactions through the years with reporters and overall aura of "no-shits-given attitude." Bristow's Auto Repair team presents why Kimi Raikkonen is Pete Bristow's Favorite F1 Driver.

INTERVIEWER: "WHAT IS YOUR FEELING BEFORE THE RACE?"

KIMI: "IT'S ALRIGHT."

It's fitting to highlight Kimi and his awe-inspiring career, given that this will be his last season racing in 2021. Many are noting how one of the true legends of F1 racing will be missed after his retirement. Raikkonen is the oldest F1 driver on the grid and holds the record for most race starts, having participated in 341 out of 344 Grand Prix races so far. His last race will be the season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix to drive for Alfa Romeo. Kimi always had a natural talent for racing which began with Karting around age ten. During his first race, an error occurred that would typically mean the race was over. His steering wheel broke. However, as he would prove later in his career, these inconveniences don't matter and wouldn't shake him. In fact, his mechanic was only informed of the steering wheel breakage as Kimi waved the wheel in the air on the home straight.

INTERVIEWER: "HOW DOES IT FEEL TO DRIVE AT 300 KM/H?"

KIMI: "IT FEELS NORMAL."

When he joined Formula 1 with Sauber at 21, his humor and odd racing conduct only heightened. He revealed in an interview that he was asleep half an hour before his debut race in Australia at the 2001 Australian Grand Prix. Fortunately, after starting 13th, he drove a stellar race to finish 6th and secure the final point-scoring position. If taking a cat nap doesn't convey his personality and laid-back mantra, what will? Most would not follow in his pre-race habits, as a regular routine includes pumping one's self up or going over strategy a few times. However, Kimi is anything but conventional.

INTERVIEWER: "THE MOST EXCITING MOMENT DURING THE RACE WEEKEND?"

KIMI: "I THINK SO IT'S THE RACE START, ALWAYS."

INTERVIEWER: "THE MOST BORING?"

KIMI: "NOW."

Kimi was racing for Lotus at the 2012 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix and leading the race on another occasion. This specific team hadn't won any races for a while, making the stakes even higher. A nervous Lotus radioed Kimi some instructions during this race, but Raikkonen shut them down with a retort. He said, "Leave Me Alone, I Know What I'm Doing." And indeed he does. Räikkönen has won 21 Grands Prix, making him the most successful Finnish driver in Formula One race wins. Even though this Finish driver has so many trophies to his name (341 grand Prix race starts, won 21 races, and been on the podium 108 times during his career), he will be remembered as one of, if not the most entertaining driver over the past two decades - Pete Bristow sure thinks so!
